Main Responsibilities:

Affiliated with Ningbo Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, NBIS (predecessor: Ningbo Quality and Technical Supervision Numbering and Information Research Institute,) is a technical institute engaging in standardization research. The main responsibilities of NBIS are to research standardization, technical regulations and technical barriers to trade (TBT). Furthermore, to organize and manage tasks relating to the organization code and article numbering in Ningbo, as well as to develop and construct various information-based projects. Ningbo WTO/TBT Consultation Centre, Ningbo Supervision and Testing Centre for Bar Code Quality, Ningbo Supervision and Testing Centre for Identification Mark Product Quality, The National Administration for Code Allocation to Organizations (NACAO) Ningbo Branch, Article Numbering Centre of China（ANCC）Ningbo Branch are set up in NBIS.

NBIS currently has more than 50 staff members, with 85% professional and technical personnel. Some staff members hold a PH.D or a postgraduate degree. Over the years, NBIS has provided high quality services to government and enterprises. These services are based on the doctrine of “Scientific & Fair, Honesty & High Efficiency, Exploitation & Innovation,” and the idea of “Standardization Research and Service is the Body; Organization Codes and Article numbering are the Two Wings; Information being the Means.” NBIS has been able to provide these services, using its extensive library collections, resources, and smooth Information channels. NBIS has made many breakthroughs with respect to standardization research, reducing technical barriers to trade, promoting application of the organization code, applying and developing numbering technology etc.Based on the great efforts made by all cadres and staff, NBIS has developed superior industrial morals and work style. Cohesion and affinity of the leadership team is increasingly highlighted. With regard to the code, bar code and standardization related fields, NBIS has achieved excellent results throughout the country and won titles such as “Advanced Unit of National Technical Supervision Work”,” Advanced Unit of National Organization Code Work”,” Advanced Unit of National Bar Code Work”, ” Advanced Unit of National Standardization Work” as well as “Ningbo Quality and Technical Supervision Superior Enterprise” etc. Furthermore, NBIS was honored as “National Youth Civilization Unit” in 2006.
